Last Sunday 27th June saw the ‘Juniors’ take part in the Avon Schools Championships. Despite various isolation issues for some players, 12 schools took part and made for a great day of tennis. Thank you to Carol Weekes for producing and managing these Championships and we will build on this for next year, so tell all your local Avon Schools.

Avon Schools Senior Championship
Fantastic tennis took place last Sunday 16th May at the Avon Schools Senior Championship event. Clifton College hosted and we were blessed with pretty good weather, just a couple of light showers and no reason to stop play. Donna and Maggie did a great job, and all players behaved brilliantly and were a credit to their schools, along with fantastic matches.

It was great to see the return of the Championships in what has been a topsy turvy year for schools everywhere. We decided to run this as a team event and it was very popular amongst the competitors who, instead of playing against their friends, were playing WITH them. They played in the main draw and then a consolation draw, so enjoyed plenty of court time – really fabulous to see. We had a couple of last minute drop-outs but 4 girls schools competed and 5 boys schools (1 with 2 teams).
The girls winners were Colstons Collegiate with Clifton College runners up. The boys winners were Beechen Cliff with Colstons Collegiate as runners up.
Thank you to Carol, Donna and Maggie for making it happen and to Clifton College, Beechen Cliff, Colstons Collegiate, Redmaids High, Chew Valley and King Edwards Bath for entering in to the spirit. We hope to build on the event next year.
We now concentrate on the Junior/Intermediate event on the 27th June.
