Katie Swan, originally from Bristol and a Junior County Player, reached the second round of Wimbledon (and a Grand slam) for the first time in her career.

Katie, prior to Wimbledon ranked 206 and who received a “wildcard entry”, sealed an impressive and focussed victory over world ranked (36) Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania on the first day of Wimbledon in just under an hour, 6-2; 6-2.

Unfortunately her opponent in round 2, another Romanian, Mihaela Buzarnescu (seeded 29 in this years tournament), was just too strong on the day as Katie lost 6-0; 6-3. Despite the loss there are many positives which Katie and her coach can take forward into the forthcoming months and our best wishes from everyone associated with Avon Tennis for continued success.

Stop Press: As a result of her Wimbledon success Katie’s ranking has now risen to a career high of 176 in the world
