Avon Tennis: Chair – Role Description

Overview of the role

The Chair of Avon Tennis is the strategic and day to day leader of the Charitable organisation, as both a Trustee and Officer of the County association. He/she Chairs the Trustee Board and the Executive Committee, and sits on the Finance and Audit Committee. The Chair is responsible for ensuring that Avon Tennis fulfils its Charitable Objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring governance requirements are met, including structure of meetings, financial management, succession planning, risk management.
  • Ensuring staff and volunteers are supported and managed.
  • Liaison with Regional LTA.
  • Ensuring effective liaison with, and support for clubs, venues and coaches.

Skills and experiences needed for the role:

  • An ability to Chair effective meetings.
  • Ability to be part of a team, but also to lead.
  • Be organised and possess tact, diplomacy, communication, and presentation skills.

Commitments

  • Time commitment will vary dependent upon how tasks are divided but on average it will be around 6-8 hours per week. This includes:
  • Attending Executive Committee meetings (7 per year), Board meetings (2 per year) and Finance and Audit Committee meetings (4 per year), also
  • Regional Volunteer Forums (4 per year) and Regional LTA meetings (3 per year)
