The boys and girls orange ball teams competed at Bath Uni indoors and after spending 30 mins taping the lines on 6 indoor courts we got started. With the new format of first to 4 games, on orange, just for the county cup, we were always going to be pushed for time as the girls event followed the boys.

So with 5 players per team we got going with the format of 4 singles and 2 doubles against, South Wales, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

Starting with the always strong Welsh we lost a couple of close ones and went down 6-0, Losing 3 matches on the tie break at 3-3. Devon a 5-1 loss, just one loss on the tiebreak. The next 2 matches against Cornwall and Somerset were convincing wins where the Somerset match was reduced to just 10 point tiebreaks, due to time. All boys performed admirably but work to do on the practice court 😁.

The boys finished in 3rd place having lost to Devon and S Wales but winning against Cornwall and Somerset. Well played to Alexander, Frederick, Joel, Sebby and Thomas.

The girls with the same format, starting with the Welsh, a must win with a strong chance of winning the group. Going into the doubles it was 2-2 and after very consistent performances both doubles, gave us the 4-2 win. The other matches against the other counties, our girls were too solid and I don’t believe they dropped another rubber.

The 5 girls represented by Sofia, Emilia, Eleanor, Molly and Freya, plus a special mention for Emma, who through no fault of own, was unable to make the day. It would have strengthened our team on the day, and as Regional Winners the girls now look forward to playing in the National County Cup Girls Final at Bath on Sunday 6th June.
