Job Description for a Mental Health Support Worker
to assist Clubs/Venues & coaches within Avon Tennis
Introduction
Avon Tennis is looking for a volunteer/point of contact to help support clubs and venues, plus the coaching fraternity, offering practical support if help is required with those experiencing anxiety or mental health issues that might affect the provision of tennis in their settings.
Hours : Flexible this is a voluntary role
Catchment area : within Avon Tennis which covers the local authority areas of B&NES, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire & Bristol City Council
Essential :
- Has previous experience in the wider areas of mental health
- Has appropriate qualifications or is working towards them
- Able to work alone and from home
- Able to act as a catalyst/negotiator between relevant parties and build relationships
- Ability to work within the wider team and communicate with other volunteers and staff
- Have the following qualities – patience, compassion, empathy, non judgemental
- Be an active listener and a good communicator
- Able to follow up and support all involved to a conclusion (time limited, any situation should be brought to a close or ongoing further support sought via outside agencies)
- DBS Enhanced
- Maintain confidentiality and awareness of data protection legislation
- Be aware of the LTA’s safeguarding & inclusion policies plus guidance resources
Desirable :
- An interest in tennis
- Can access mental health services and signpost as required
- IT skills (eg. Spreadsheets, email, word etc)
- Be prepared to complete the following course and promote it to clubs and venues
